November
12 November, 2013
Welcome,
We hope you all enjoyed S.H.A.G. Week, which was held a few weeks ago. It was a very successful campaign with huge student involvement. The aim of the week was to provide the Student Body with information and create an awareness of sexual health, STIs, contraception and unplanned pregnancies. We would like to thank all those students who got involved in the various events and treasure hunt and a huge thank you to all the Welfare Crew who helped out.
Our next campaign is Positive Mind And Body Week, 11th – 14th of November.
The aim of this campaign is to promote positive mental health and healthy body, and to demonstrate the links between the two. There is going to be a lot happening during the week so get involved in the workshops, talks and events. Please see our timetable in expliCIT and posters. On Monday 11th we will be proud to accept the Suicide Aware Amber Flag Award which CIT has been awarded for the promotion of positive Mental Health. We will raise the flag at the Flag Poles on Monday at 1p.m. Where we are honoured to welcome guest speaker Kathleen Lynch, Minister of State for Department of Health and Department of Justice, Equality & Defence with responsibility for Disability, Older People, Equality and Mental Health. This will be a proud moment for CIT and I would encourage you all to attend. Keep up to date with what will be happening everyday through our Facebook and Twitter pages. Just like and follow each page. We hope you all enjoy the week so get involved and attend the great events and activities that are on.
Library
After continuous negotiations with college management it has been decided not to close the library early during October / November to facilitate longer opening hours at exam time. There is a proposal to open the West Atrium in the evenings and weekends and a potential opening of the library on Sundays at exam time so please keep an eye on your mycit email.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Wednesday 20th November. The Students’ Union AGM is for all students and we encourage you to attend. “Because what happens in CIT affects you!” Come join us and see what’s going on around campus, get involved in the idea generation forum and let us help solve any headaches you may have!
My Academic Headache
Vice President Education, Rich will be running a campaign in Semester two around the issues CIT students face in relation to their education, what they are entitled to and other relevant info. Keep an eye out in your mycit email as I will be sending out a poll asking you what are the biggest difficulties you see before you. This market research is crucial to streamline my project as the answers will form the backbone to the entire project. Any queries or suggestions see below. Aon ceist?
